The Sentinel Sites for Nature — California network includes more than 80 instrumented sites across the state operated by multiple partners. Each site features a weather station equipped with a standardized set of instruments, at least four wildlife monitoring plots including downward-facing and horizontal-facing cameras, and two sound recorders to capture the vocalizations of wildlife. Most sites include a Motus station that detects the presence of highly mobile wildlife such as migratory birds carrying transmitter tags.
