Micaela is a Professor in the Department of Wildlife at Cal Poly Humboldt with more than 30 years of experience studying the behavioral ecology of mammals. Her primary responsibilities include teaching courses in animal behavior and the management of mammal populations, among others, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects involving wildlife behavior. As part of her research and scholarly activities, she leads the California State University (CSU) Sentinel Sites for Nature effort, working alongside a dedicated team of co-directors, project managers, and faculty from across the CSU system. As the nation’s largest four-year public university system, the CSU serves nearly half a million students annually. Through the Sentinel Sites for Nature Network, 17 of the CSU’s 23 campuses have established one or two field sites each at properties near to (or on) their campuses, for a total of 30 additional Sentinel Sites, providing students with hands-on research, training, and experiential learning opportunities in biodiversity monitoring and contributing to the statewide California Sentinel Sites for Nature collaborative.
